Computer Science Professor Jin-Hua She was selected to be in the "engineering" category of the Thomson Reuters' list of Highly Cited Researchers, which assesses and ranks researcher performance. The engineering category selected 187 researchers from around the world, with two from Japan.

The Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers is a list of researchers from each field who have the most highly cited publications, and are therefore arguably conducting some of the most influential research in the world.

Thomson Reuters is a leader in the global information industry, and is responsible for a system of ranking research papers called the Science Citation Index. Journals that are registered with SCI are given an "impact factor" that rates the journal's quality, and this system has been implemented in various places.
